Best way to start investing in real estate

Hey everyone,

If you’re looking to get into real estate investing but have no idea where to start, you’re not alone. There’s so much information out there, some people talk about house hacking, others swear by BRRRR, wholesaling, or turnkey rentals. It can get pretty overwhelming, especially with interest rates being what they are right now.

If you were starting from scratch today, what strategy would you focus on first? Are there any approaches you wish you’d tried, or avoided when you were just getting started?

If I had to start all over again in 2025, I’d go house hacking especially with FHA or 5% down conventional options. Live in one unit, rent the others, and cover most or all of your housing costs while building equity.

My first deal was a turnkey single-family rental in a growing midwest market. It cash-flowed modestly and gave me the confidence to level up from there.

Was it the highest ROI? Probably not. But it got me in the game with minimal stress, and that’s worth something too.
